Brad Pitt latest: FBI confirms it is considering investigation

September 23, 2016

The FBI is considering whether to launch an investigation into an incident involving Brad Pitt and his children, the Associated Press reports. Following allegations that the actor was abusive during a recent flight towards one of his six children, a spokesperson for the bureau has issued the following statement.

"In response to your inquiry regarding allegations within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States, specifically an aircraft carrying Mr Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI is continuing to gather facts and will evaluate whether an investigation at the federal level will be pursued," it read.

The FBI has said it is gathering information about an incident involving Brad Pitt

According to numerous reports, the allegations stem from a flight the family took from France to Minnesota on Wednesday last week – in her divorce paperwork, Angelina listed the couple's date of separation as Thursday 15 September, just one day later.

The FBI has jurisdiction over the situation because the alleged incident happened in the air.

The Los Angeles Police Department, meanwhile, has confirmed it is not investigating the allegations, despite earlier reports claiming the contrary. A statement released on Thursday said: "LAPD is not handling any report or allegations into child abuse for Mr Brad Pitt."

Brad and Angelina have six children together

As HELLO! Online previously reported, Angelina filed for divorce on Monday 19 September, citing irreconcilable differences, and requesting sole physical custody of the couple’s six children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and eight-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

"This decision was made for the health of the family," the actress' lawyer Robert Offer confirmed. "She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."

A short time after the divorce news broke, Brad broke his silence. "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids," he said in a statement. "I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
