Simon Cowell has opened up about his son Eric, revealing that the two-year-old takes swimming lessons with Robbie Williams' children, four-year-old Theodora and one-year-old Charlton.

Chatting on ITV's Lorraine, the X Factor judge said: "His [Robbie's] kids play with Eric. They come over for swimming lessons and stuff. Robbie, I saw the other day, I mean he’s in a really great place, his wife [Ayda Field], she is an amazing, amazing person."

Simon opened up about his son, Eric

The star proudly opened up about his only son's interests, and joked how he was 'in training' to become a judge himself.

"When he likes something he is a really good barometer," Simon said. "Like we had these polar bears last year he was obsessed with them, so he's in training."

Fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger has previously opened up about Simon's son, telling Glamour magazine: "Eric is so sweet, he speaks such proper English, it cracks me up. I feel like his IQ is higher than mine! It's great to see Simon so happy."

During his chat with Lorraine, Simon also spoke about Sharon Osbourne, and how he thinks that return to the show as a judge was a welcome distraction for her following her well-publicised marriage difficulties with husband Ozzy Osbourne.

"I think the show was a really good distraction for her when you know things were all going a little bit crazy," Simon admitted. "She's enjoyed herself. But look, the thing about Sharon is you see this kind of like tough part of her, this very flamboyant part, but of course you know she is sensitive as well and when you've got to live all that in the public, it's hard."

He continued: "But definitely having Louis [Walsh] back working with her, because these two are two peas in a pod, I think it's been good for her."
