"Ok… Very disturbing," he wrote to his followers on Thursday night, alongside a screenshot of the incorrect article. "I have just been informed that I am dead!" The 40-year-old added that he was "horrified & bemused" by the report.

"Ps… I'm very much still alive!" he wrote in a separate tweet, before quipping that the news outlet was "very wrong on this report thank goodness!"

It seems that some fans missed the dancer's tweets as some took to social media to express their sadness and concern over his alleged death, so on Friday morning Brendan once again dismissed the false report. "Ps… report yesterday of me having died… very much untrue! lol," he wrote.

Brendan has been resting over the last few days as he tries to recover from a serious lung infection. Despite soldiering on through his dance with partner Anastacia last Saturday, he was told by doctors to rest and until Friday, meaning he couldn’t rehearse for the upcoming shows this weekend. However, Anastacia has still been practicing, helped by Gorka Marquez, who was originally partnered with Tameka Empson.

Brendan shared a statement on his eponymous website to set "the record straight about what happened" regarding his health. He explained he has previously battled with pneumonia and chose to go to the hospital on Saturday morning when his symptoms flared up again.

"After suffering a Pneumonia in February of this year during my tour, I guess my lungs weren't up to full strength and my immune system not quite ready to deal with what would normally be just an innocuous cough," he explained.

"On Saturday morning in the small hours, I was finding it difficult to get enough oxygen into my lungs and was getting worried that maybe my cough was turning back into what I had in February which had me in and out of hospital over three nights."

Admitting that by Wednesday he was "feeling a little better", the star has yet to confirm whether he will be performing on Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night.
