Simon defended the rap artist

Speaking on the X Factor Saturday night following Honey G's performance of Jump by Kriss Kross, he said: "For everyone that's been criticising you, you know what? Music can be fun - and you are fun.

"This is why I love the X Factor. Technically this shouldn't work, but it does... Behind the scenes, Honey G is one of the nicest contestants we've ever had on the show."

The 35-year-old contestant thanked Simon before addressing the audience, saying: "I'm here to switch things up and I am going to take this to the final!"

Honey G has several celebrity supporters

Honey also has several celebrity fans including 50 Cent, who came forward in support of the performer after some claimed that her act was racist.

Speaking to The Daily Star, the Grammy award-winning rap artist said: "She is entertaining, and I guarantee there is not going to be a hip-hop artist in the world who is going to be offended by her.

"I would like to see her go far, at least she is bringing some happiness into the world. My message to her is haters always gonna hate, rise above it… For anybody who thinks a white person performing music of black origin is racist, you know they don't know what racism really is… These people complaining ain't got a clue."
