Brad Pitt has been spotted for the first time since his divorce from Angelina Jolie was announced in September. On Tuesday, the 52-year-old star made an unannounced appearance at a private screening of Moonlight in LA, along with friend Julia Roberts. The movie, which is already generating Oscar buzz, tells the story of a gay African-American boy, and was produced in part by Brad's production company Plan B.

Brad seemed in good spirits at the event, smiling and chatting with audience members, with Julia by his side. Onlookers did note, however, that the Hollywood actor looked noticeably slimmer following the end of his marriage.

Brad Pitt made a surprise appearance at a screening of Moonlight with Julia Roberts on Tuesday

Brad's appearance came just one day after Angelina's representative released a new statement confirming that the former couple have reached a joint agreement over the custody of their six children.

The actress will continue to have sole custody of Maddox, 14, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10 and eight-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, while Brad will have "therapeutic visits".

The timing of the agreement is somewhat surprising. Just three days earlier, Brad filed his response to Angelina's divorce petition in which he requested joint physical and legal custody of their children.

In his paperwork, the Fight Club star also cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the high-profile couple's split, and listed 15 September as the date of separation. The filing makes no mention of a pre-nuptial agreement that will decide how the pair divide their assets.

Meanwhile, Brad is scheduled to make his first red carpet appearance this week at the premiere of Allied on Wednesday night. The actor decided to skip the screening for Voyage in Time in late September after his divorce became frontpage news – but will reportedly attend this week's event, which is taking place in the Westwood neighbourhood of LA.

Brad will not be giving any interviews, however, and will also be avoiding press junkets and talk show appearances to promote the WWII drama, which is hitting cinemas on 23 November.
