It's like seeing double! Melania Trump could have been Princess Sofia of Sweden's sister in her younger days.

Looking back at photos of the future First Lady, it's hard not to see the resemblance between a younger Melania and the Swedish princess.

Both women have been blessed with good looks and began their careers as models before they were propelled into the spotlight.

Melania and Sofia both have the same sparkling blue eyes and dark hair

Sofia, 31, and Melania, 46, both have sparkling blue eyes and sweetheart-shaped faces, as well as long flowing brunette tresses.

They started modelling as teenagers; Melania worked for fashion houses in Milan, Paris and New York while Sofia found success in her native Sweden. The princess was voted Miss Slitz 2004 by the men's magazine, while Melania has graced the covers of Harper's Bazaar Bulgaria, GQ, Vanity Fair Italia and more.

Melania Trump: Meet the next US First Lady

Both women found further fame after meeting their future husbands at parties. Sofia was on a night out when she caught the eye of Prince Carl Philip, the fourth-in-line to the Swedish throne. Similarly, Melania was at a party when she was introduced to Donald Trump.

"We had a great connection, we had great chemistry, but I was not starstruck," Melania admitted. "And maybe he noticed that."

"If I give him my number, I'm just one of the women he calls," she later recalled. "I wanted to see what his intention is. It tells you a lot from the man what kind of number he gives you. He gave me all of his numbers."

Both women have one son with their husbands

Melania married Donald seven years after they met and welcomed a son Barron in 2006. Sofia and Carl Philip are also the parents to a son, baby Prince Alexander, who was born in April.

Sofia is relatively new in her role as a princess; she officially joined the Swedish royal family in June 2015 after she married Carl Philip.

And similarly Melania is set to have a big presence on the international stage. Her husband Donald will take office in January 2017, and in her role as First Lady of the United States, Melania is expected to champion her own causes as well as act as a right-hand woman to her husband.
