Robert Vaughn dies aged 83: celebrities pay tribute

Robert Vaughn, best known for his role in The Man from UNCLE, has sadly died aged 83. The actor, who also starred in the Magnificent Seven along with roles in Hustle and Murder, She Wrote, passed away from a battle with leukaemia.

 The star's manager Matthew Sullivan confirmed the sad news, telling the BBC that Robert died surrounded by family on Friday morning.

 Friends and colleagues of the late actor have taken to social media to pay tribute to him, while Robert's Man from UNCLE co-star David McCallum spoke to TVLine.com about the sad loss.

 "Robert and I worked together for many years and losing him is like losing a part of me," he told the site. "My deepest sympathies go out to Linda and the Vaughn family… He was a great human being. I enjoyed every day of working with him."

Stephen Fry took to Twitter to express his sadness, writing: "Oh no. Robert Vaughn, such a fine actor, one of the best Columbo villains (no higher praise than that) & an utterly charming man, has died."

Celebrities paid tribute to Robert

Sir Roger Moore wrote: "Sorry to hear the news about Robert Vaughn," while Outlander actor Sam Heughan added: "Sad sad news about Robert Vaughan. Big fan as a child of U.N.C.L.E He seemed like a real gentleman. Rest well sir."

Only Fools and Horses actor John Challis spoke about how Robert was the final member of the Magnificent Seven group to pass away, tweeting: "I can't bear it. The last of the Magnificent Seven has died. Dear Robert Vaughan who told me that he loved our little programme. Gawd bless 'im."

Dermot O'Leary instagrammed a snap of the star, captioning the photo: "Ah man, now Robert Vaughan...2016 you can officially do one."
