Shannen Doherty was notably absent from the Beverly Hills, 90210 reunion over the weekend.

The actress, who played Brenda Walsh in the series, could not attend due to her ongoing breast cancer treatments, but she was never far from her former co-stars' minds.

The group paid tribute to the former teen queen at the REWindCon convention in Illinois. Luke Perry, who played Shannen's boyfriend Dylan on the show for four years, told fans: "None of us are up here today without Shannen. She's been through a lot. She's not doing well right now, but sometimes her contributions are minimised."

Luke also gave a nod to the on and off-screen drama that once surrounded them. "She's been thrown under the bus," he said. "I've been accused of driving it. But she's a very big part of the success of this show. She taught me a lot. I'm glad she was my scene partner. She was great at what she did in the character with me."

Jennie Garth, who played Luke's other girlfriend Kelly on the show, also paid a touching tribute to Shannen. She shared a photo on Instagram, making reference to Shannen's character Brenda.

Calling the actress her "soul sister" and the "strongest lady" she's ever known, Jennie wrote: "I used to be threatened by your spirit, now I'm in awe of it. You've taught me a lot about speaking my mind and not being afraid of my power. I'm so grateful that young me got to be friends with you. But especially "old" me! The best is yet to come on this crazy journey!! Love you!"

Shannen, 45, was clearly touched by her friend's words as she reposted the photo. "I'm so proud of this friendship and the mutual respect and admiration we have for each other," she wrote. The Charmed actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2015. Since then, Shannen has kept fans updated with the highs and lows of her treatment, and the progress she's been making.
