She was at the centre of speculation after Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie announced their separation in September. And during an appearance on Today on Thursday morning, Marion Cotillard spoke out about the affair rumours for the first time on camera.
"I never take anything personally when it doesn't concern me," explained the actress - who stars as Brad's wife in the upcoming World War II thriller, Allied. "So, I didn't take it personally because I had nothing to do with those rumours or situation."
Marion Cotillard has shot down Brad Pitt affair rumours in new interview
Marion, 41, strenuously denied that she had anything to do with the high-profile break-up. Shortly after the split, the actress revealed that she and her long-term partner Guillaume Canet are expecting another baby. When prompted further, the expectant star added: "No, I don't give energy to this. It was a wonderful, wonderful experience working with such a visionaire director and an amazing actor, and that's all that matters."
At the time Brad and Angelina's split news was confirmed, Marion took to her Instagram page to shut down the ongoing rumours. "This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into," she said. "I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiralling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up.
"I never take anything personally when it doesn't concern me," the actress said
"Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need. Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn't distressing.
"And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery. Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment."
Allied, which will be released on 25 November in the UK, sees Brad and Marion play a husband and wife who are slowly torn apart by suspicion. The couple's happy relationship is put in danger when Brad's character, American intelligence officer Max Vatan, is told that his wife is suspected of being a German spy.
