Tom Hanks is a grandfather again! The actor's son Chet welcomed a daughter earlier this year, but the little girl's birth has only just been confirmed.

Chet took to Instagram to share an emotional video post, in which he revealed that he is a father. The 26-year-old explained that he wanted to keep his child out of the spotlight, and that she is the reason he has remained sober.

"I want to share something today because it's about to be shared anyway in the press, which is the fact that I have a daughter," said Chet. "I do have a daughter, she's the best thing that's ever happened to me, she's the reason why I turned my life around and got sober. I've been sober for over a year and a half from everything."

Chet Hanks confirmed his daughter's birth on Instagram

"I don't share her on Instagram, I don't post her on Instagram because her privacy is sacred to me. She is sacred to me," he added. "She's not something to be posted. She's something that I love, that's changed my life but the fact is she's about to be shared with everybody so I wanted you to hear it from me."

Chet concluded: "I'm a real person. It hasn't been easy making all my mistakes in public but I'm figuring it out. I'm doing the best that I can."

Chet shares his daughter with a woman he had a brief liaison with earlier this year. He took to Twitter to defend her, writing in a series of posts: "She is one of the nicest people I know... I'm just thankful that my daughter has such a great mum."

Chet is Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson's elder son. The couple, who have been married for 28 years, also have a younger son Truman Theodore. Tom is also the dad to Colin and Elizabeth, his children from his first marriage to Samantha Lewes.

The actor, 60, has previously spoken about helping Chet through his sobriety battle. "As a parent, you love your kids unconditionally," he told Entertainment Tonight. "You support them every step of the way."
