Earlier on in the day, the mother-of-one posted a snap from her party. Alongside the image, she gushed: "Thank you for the birthday love I really appreciate it!!!!!!!!" During the day's celebrations, the star headed to the bowling alley before enjoying a few tasty sugary treats. "Love today #mothersanddaughters #friends #love," she said. In an interview with People in 2014, the star said that her daughter "means everything to me". She explained: "I'm learning every day, and I have been since the minute I became a mum." The former Dawson's Creek actress also touched up her split from Tom. "I don't want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am," she commented. "I don't want that to be what I'm known as. I was an actor before, an actor during, and an actor now."
Meanwhile, Katie recently made her directorial debut with film All We Had, which focuses on a mother-daughter relationship. Speaking about the movie, she said: "A mother's love is greater than anything; it's definitely a universal theme. I think seeing Ruthie fight her mother is natural… But Rita is very much a child herself, which makes them more original in their relationship. I felt like we haven't seen that kind of story too much between mother and daughter. I thought that was worth telling."
Katie will next be seen in new American TV drama, The Kennedys: After Camelot, in which she plays Jacqueline Kennedy - the series is expected to air early next year.
