Carrie Fisher is in a stable condition after suffering a cardiac arrest on Friday 23 December.

The news was confirmed by the star's mother, Debbie Reynolds, who tweeted: "Carrie is in stable condition. If there is a change, we will share it. For all her fans & friends. I thank you for your prayers & good wishes." The actress, who is best known for her role of Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, is currently in the intensive care unit of a hospital in L.A. after suffering the cardiac arrest during a flight from London to Los Angeles. Carrie's brother Todd also spoke about his sister's condition, telling Variety: "We have to wait and be patient. We have so little information ourselves. She's in the intensive care unit and everybody's praying for her. There's nothing new from the doctors. There's nothing new at all. … There's no good news or bad news." The actress's Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford has been among those to send good wishes, telling Hollywood Reporter: "I'm shocked and saddened to hear the news about my dear friend. Our thoughts are with Carrie, her family and friends." Their fellow co-star Mark Hamill also tweeted about the star, writing: "As if 2016 couldn't get any worse... sending all our love to @carrieffisher." He then shared several photos of the pair, with one reading: "Dear Santa, all I want for Xmas is the Force to be strong with Carrie."

Fans have expressed their relief that Carrie's condition had been stabilised. One tweeted Debbie: "Thank you so much for tweeting us about her condition. We love her immensely and pray for her to get better," while another added: "Relieved to hear that. Everyone has been praying for her. This world needs her to stick around much, much longer."
