It was no secret that Princess Diana and George Michael shared a close bond. Shortly after the pop star's death was announced over the weekend, the late princess' former chef took to his Twitter page to reveal the incredible friendship between the two friends.

Darren McGrady, who has also served the Queen and Princes William and Harry, gave fans a further insight into the kind of fun they shared. He tweeted: "RIP @GeorgeMichael You made me laugh out loud when you came for lunch with Princess Diana at Kensington Palace. She adored you. Always knew when #PrincessDiana was in a good mood. @GeorgeMichael music used to belt out around the @KensingtonRoyal courtyard #HappyTimes."

"Diana was the only person that I knew who made me feel like an ordinary person," he said in a past interview (via The Mirror). "That's what I thought was so amazing about her." He added: "But I was always reluctant to call her up. It was almost like a mate of mine who doesn't want to call me up too much in case it looks strange – because he thinks that everybody else is calling me up."

George sold more than 100 million albums throughout his career which spanned almost four decades. His song Last Christmas was one of his former band's most well-known classic hits, and a special part of the festive seasons for millions around the world.
