The mother of The Progues band member Shane MacGowan had sadly died in a car accident.
According to police, Therese MacGowan was driving in Silvermines, County Tipperary in the Republic of Ireland on Sunday when the car she was driving hit a wall. Theresa, who was in her late eighties, was declared dead at the scene, and there were no passengers in the car at the time. A spokesperson for the police said "It would appear to be a single car collision with a wall."

The Pogues, who are best known for their hit single Fairytale of New York, were fronted by Shane MacGowan from 1982 until their split in 2014. Shane's mother Therese had worked as a singer, a traditional Irish dancer and as a model in Dublin. She leaves behind Shane and a daughter Siobhan, who is a journalist, writer and songwriter, and husband Maurice MacGowan. The sad news came just two weeks after the former manager of The Pogues Frank Murray died at the age of 66, reportedly after suffering a heart attack. Former band member Spider Stacy paid tribute to the manager in a statement to Billboard, which read: "It does really feel like the end of something. I'm very sorry to see him go. He was brilliant really. I loved him deeply."
