It looks like the success Alessia Cara found in 2016 is going to roll straight into the New Year. According to Forbes and their "30 Under 30 List," the Canadian is one of the biggest movers and shakers to keep an eye on in 2017. She joins a plethora of famous faces who also made the list including actress Margot Robbie, TV star Hilary Duff, model Kylie Jenner and YouTube and social media sensation Tyler Oakley.
The Brampton-native was named to Forbes 30 under 30 list for 2017
According to Forbes, Alessia nabbed a spot on the list for her unwavering work ethic and extraordinary achievements in 2016.
"[The] Canadian popstar followed in the footsteps of compatriot Justin Bieber by notching YouTube views before bursting onto airwaves with 2016 hit 'Here.' The single shifted more than two million copies," the publication noted. "The accompanying album, Know-It-All went gold. She has since supported Coldplay on tour, and even sung a Lin-Manuel Miranda-penned song for Disney movie Moana."
Though the 20-year-old has yet to comment on the honour publicly, she's no doubt thrilled with the recognition.
In the past year she's gone from YouTube star to one of Canada's most promising musicians. She won Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2016 Juno Awards and she took home the Best New Canadian Artist award at the 2016 iHeart Radio Much Music Video Awards. She also achieved one of her greatest goals by playing a stadium show (alongside the aforementioned Coldplay).
Speaking to the BBC about the accomplishment she said: "It's insane and the most surreal thing in the entire world. Every time I go on stage it feels unreal... when I talk to them it doesn't feel like it's happening. It's the most flattering thing in the world."
