If you're an Ed Sheeran fan, then you'll likely remember a story that circulated in November which involved him being "fake knighted" by Princess Beatrice. Now, it appears that the British singer isn't keen to talk about the incident.

Appearing on BBC Radio 1 in early January to promote his new album, the GRAMMY winner told anchor Scott Mills and co-host Chris Stark that he's not at liberty to discuss what really happened.

When asked about the 'knighting', he responded with, "Yeah... there's... I don't know if I can talk about that, you know."

The radio hosts went on to prod the singer by saying he's already opened up about the issue.

Ed's response was short and sweet. "Not fully, no. I have mentioned the cut, but..."

Ed showed off the scar he allegedly received from Princess Beatrice during a recent radio appearance.

Host Scott then went on to point out the artist's scar asking, "Do you like it? I think it's quite rugged." He added: "There may have been a princess involved, that's all you said... No, you didn't even say that, just that there was a scar and everyone's jumping to conclusions."

Politely laughing it off, the 25-year-old joked, "I've been telling people it was James Blunt trying to get his career back. He actually told me to say that! I'm not being mean."

It was a sly enough comment to shift the topic of conversation away from the royals to Ed's new album ÷ and his first two singles from the compilation: "Castle on the Hill" and "Shape of You."

So what exactly happened between Ed and Princess Beatrice? It appears we'll never know.

Back then reports suggested that the princess went on to "knight" the You're Beautiful singer after he joked about wanting to become a "Sir." According to The Sun, the royal jokingly grabbed a sword and as she swung it over his shoulder, nicked his face in the process.

A source told the publication, "The blade cut into his face and it was just a few inches from his right eye... Ed really played it down. Everyone was totally shocked and apparently Beatrice was very upset. But Ed was the perfect gentleman and told her it was just an accident."

They went on to say: "Obviously the princess was upset and everyone was talking about it, but she and Ed spoke about and everything was fine. She did nothing wrong except mess around at a party and her friends, including Ed, all told her that."
