Paris Jackson has expressed her surprise following Sky's announcement that they will be no longer airing a TV programme about Michael Jackson due to "concerns expressed by Michael Jackson's immediate family."

The daughter of the icon took to Twitter to express her gratitude that they had cancelled the programme, in which Joseph Fiennes had been cast as Michael Jackson. Retweeting the network's statement confirming the decision, she wrote: "I'm surprised the family's feelings were actually taken into consideration for once, we all really do appreciate it more than y'all know." The statement read: "We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon, a half-hour episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series, in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson's immediate family. We set out to take a light-hearted look at reportedly true events and never intended to cause any offence. Joseph Fiennes fully supports our decision."

The 18-year-old, who lost her father in 2009, originally complained about show, saying: "I'm so incredibly offended by it, as I am sure plenty of people are as well, and it honestly makes me want to vomit. It angers me to see how obviously intentional it was for them to be this insulting, not just towards my father, but my godmother Liz as well. Where is the respect? They worked through blood, sweat and tears for ages to create such profound and remarkable legacies. Shameful portrayal." Paris' cousin Taj Jackson also expressed concerns over the episode, tweeting: "Unfortunately this is what my family has to deal with. No words could express the blatant disrespect." Many Twitter users praised Sky for their decision not to air the episode, with one replying to Paris' tweet: "Good of you to speak out, good of them to take your feeling into consideration and [stop] the broadcast." Another added: "Very respectful decision. I'm impressed, not many would choose dignity over [money]."
