They have been dating for over a year, and Katy Perry made the sweetest gesture for her boyfriend Orlando Bloom on his 40th birthday. The American singer, 32, organised a surprise bash with close family and friends in Palm Springs this weekend.
Sharing an Instagram Story video on her page, Orlando could be seen surrounded by his loved ones, blowing out several candles on an elaborate cake with a huge owl on it. The singer even managed to get Orlando's mother Sonia to fly over for the festivities. The British actor later took to his social media sites to share a picture of himself with his mother. In the caption, he gushed: "best gift ever surprise visit from me mum."

According to People, among the celebrity guests in attendance were the couple's close friends Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux. In social media pictures, attendees got into the party spirit by wearing merchandise with Orlando's face all over it.
The fun celebrations come just weeks after Katy and Orlando saw in the New Year together in Tokyo. The stars have been dating since last January, but it wasn't until May that they made their relationship official on social media. The Roar hitmaker confirmed that she and Orlando were officially an item by sharing a photo of themselves lying on the stairs of a lavish hotel during Cannes Film Festival, adding the caption: "we cannes't."

Earlier this month, the English actor praised his girlfriend's work with UNICEF, which promotes the rights and wellbeing of all children. Orlando said: "She's amazing, you know, I'm super proud of the work that she does."
The Lord of the Rings star was previously married to Australian model Miranda Kerr from 2007 to 2013. The former couple are parents to five-year-old-son Flynn. Meanwhile, Katy tied the knot with British comedian Russell Brand in 2010 but their high-profile romance ended two years later.
