Cuba Gooding Jr has called time on his 22 year marriage. The People v OJ Simpson star has filed for divorce from wife Sara Kapfer, TMZ confirms. According to court documents Cuba is requesting joint legal and physical custody of their ten-year-old daughter Piper, and is also willing to pay spousal support to school teacher Sara.

The filing comes nearly three years after Sara filed for legal separation from her husband, in April 2014, citing irreconcilable differences. In that documentation, she stated that the couple had married on 13 March, 1994 but had separated on 16 April 2014.

The couple have kept their majority of their relationship out of the spotlight – but just recently they stepped out together to attend a Golden Globes party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Explaining why they have stayed close, even after Sara's separation filing, Cuba told chat show host Steve Harvey in March last year: "Officially I am still married, it's just, you know how some marriages go. Sometimes you've got to take a break or two.

The couple have been married since 1994, and have three children together

"All I'm saying is my life is what it is right now. I took her to see a movie the other day. We've got kids, man. We've got to keep this together."

Cuba, 49, and Sara were high school sweethearts and had three children together – sons Spencer and Mason, and daughter Piper – in their 20-year marriage. They dated for seven years before tying the knot in 1994.
