Their parents might have been pitted against each other in the 2016 presidential election, but future First daughter Ivanka Trump insists that she and former First daughter Chelsea Clinton remain "very good friends". During an interview with 20/20, which aired on Thursday, the 35-year-old socialite explained: "She's been a friend of mine long before the campaign, of course will be a friend of mine after."

"I haven't spoken about the specific challenges about this next chapter with her just yet but I intend to. It's been two months since Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump dominated the headlines in their fight to become the 45th President of the United States.

Before the presidential campaign kicked off, mother-of-three Ivanka told People Magazine that the pair are very supportive of their individual parents. "We're both incredibly supportive of our parents, as we should be," she explained. "But we also continue to have great respect for one another."

Last year, Chelsea - the daughter of Hillary and Bill Clinton - talked about their unusual friendship. The 36-year-old told Cosmopolitan.com: "I am absolutely friends with Ivanka and I am grateful for her friendship. And I'm always going to believe, because this is how my parents raised me, that friendship is more important than politics.

"And we were friends before the campaign and I have no doubt that we'll be friends after the campaign. But no, we don't talk about politics, because that's not where our friendship began and it's certainly, thankfully, not where our friendship will end."
