Ben Affleck responds to the infamous 'Sad Affleck' meme

In early 2016, Ben Affleck became the star of a hilarious meme dubbed "Sad Affleck". The spot showed him sitting in on an interview looking sad and forlorn as negative headlines about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice splashed across the screen. In the background Simon & Garfunkel's hit tune Sound of Silence played softly.

Now the 44-year-old has responded to the short YouTube video. Speaking to BBC Radio 1, the actor said he learned one thing from working on the film. "It taught me not to do interviews with Henry Cavill where I don’t say anything, and they can lay Simon & Garfunkel tracks over it," he said laughing. "That’s one thing I learned."

On a more serious note, he added, "I learned a ton, actually... I had never done a movie of that scale. I didn't know what the technology was capable of doing nowadays." He wrapped up the interview by saying, "You have no idea how big these titles are. They're so much bigger than any other kind of movie, and everybody goes and sees it. I hear nothing but really nice things about the movie, which is nice because that's not what I got from the critics."

Batman v Superman, starring Henry as Superman, was widely panned by critics. However, the DC movie was still box office gold, raking in nearly $873 million worldwide.

Ben is taking his viral stardom in stride

Ben will next reprise his role as Batman in the upcoming film Justice League, also starring Henry, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot and Jesse Eisenberg.
