Ed Sheeran is feeling broody. The 25-year-old has admitted that he is ready to have "fat, chubby babies" with his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn.
The singer, who has just returned to the music scene following a year-long hiatus, said that the timing couldn't be better.
"I wanted to be a dad, like, last year," Ed told Zane Lowe during an interview on Apple Music's Beats 1. "I'm ready, let's go – tour bus babies, little fat, chubby babies that just walk around."
"I wanted to be a dad, like, last year," said Ed
When the time comes, Ed revealed that he would take an extended break from his music career. "When [my child] hits four or five and starts primary school, I'm just out," he said. "I think [Bruce] Springsteen took an extended break when his kids went to school. I think that's going to be me."
He added: "I want to set up a little studio in the countryside and have new artists come down."
A quiet life in the country with kids would also mean Ed will have time to indulge his love of Lego. The Don't singer admitted that he has a "room full of teddy bears and two giant pandas" in his bedroom.
Cherry and Ed have been dating for a year and a half
Ed explained that he was making up for the toys he didn't have as a child.
"When my album went to number one I bought the Death Star Lego kit – it was time!" he said during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, which airs on Friday night. "And, when my goddaughter wanted a Ninja Turtle, I got her one and bought myself the Ninja Turtle Truck!"
He doesn't even let women get in the way of his Lego time. "I once went on a date, brought a Lego set with me and while we were chatting I made the set and then left," said Ed.
The Thinking Out Loud singer and his girlfriend Cherry, 24, have been dating for a year and a half. They knew each other from their school days at Thomas Mills High School in Suffolk but didn't reconnect until 2015.
