Dermot O'Leary has revealed he is "flattered" to have been asked to step in as this year's Brit Awards host after Michael Buble pulled out of the duties to care for three-year-old son, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

The X Factor presenter confirmed he is in talks with bosses of the prestigious music ceremony to front the annual event, which takes place at London's The O2 on February 22. However, Dermot revealed he’s in no rush to make up his mind as he's busy focusing on Wednesday’s National Television Awards (NTAs).

"Obviously it’s hugely flattering to be asked,” he told The Sun. "I'd much rather be asked in different circumstances though. We should not forget in all of this that a little boy’s really ill and his dad’s got to take some time off to look after him.

"I’m not saying that in a schmaltzy way, it’s obviously very important. That said though, it’s a really tough gig and it’s a huge gig to be asked to do. But I want to get the NTAs out of the way first before I sit down so I’m just concentrating on the NTAs."

In November, Michael and his wife Luisiana Lopilato made the announcement that their son Noah is suffering from cancer. At the time, the Canadian singer revealed he was going to step away from the limelight to concentrate on his little boy’s health.

"Luisana and I have put our careers on hold in order to devote all our time and attention to helping Noah get well,” he shared. “At this difficult time, we ask only for your prayers and respect for our privacy. We have a long journey in front of us and hope that with the support of family, friends and fans around the world, we will win this battle, God willing."
