Madonna denies she has applied to adopt two more children

Madonna has denied reports that she appeared in court in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, to apply to adopt two more children.

Government spokesman Mlenga Mvula reportedly revealed that the court was deciding whether to grant the adoption order.

According to local reports, Madonna was due to wait a week before she finding out if she would be gratned permission to become a mother to the two children. But in a statement to HELLO! the Material Girl insisted the reports were untrue.

"I am in Malawi to check on the children's hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi, and then heading home," the singer said. "The rumors of an adoption process are untrue.”

Madonna adopted David from Malawi in 2006

Madonna, 58, has previously adopted two children from the African country – David Banda in 2006 and Mercy James in 2009.

The Like a Prayer singer also has two other children – Lourdes Leon, her 20-year-old daughter from her relationship with Carlos Leon, and Rocco Ritchie, her son from her marriage to director Guy Ritchie.

She adopted Mercy in 2009

Last year Madonna and Guy were locked in a bitter custody battle over their 16-year-old son. Madonna wanted Rocco to live with her in the US. She eventually lost the case and it was decided that Rocco would live with his father in London.

In 2006 the vocal powerhouse established a charity in Malawi called Raising Malawi, which is dedicated to improving children's lives. The charity provides scholarships to female students and is involved with a number of schools.

The singer has called Malawi her "second home"

Michigan-born Madonna has previously referred to the country as her "second home".

Last year the singer made the trip to Malawi with her children David and Mercy, both 11. The youngsters visited the orphanages they used to live in before they were adopted.
