Mischa Barton has issued a statement after she was taken to hospital for a mental evaluation on Thursday morning.
The O.C. star revealed that she was drugged while out celebrating her 31st birthday with pals. She told People magazine: "On the evening of the 25th, I went out with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday. While having drinks, I realised that something was not right as my behaviour was becoming erratic and continued to intensify over the next several hours. I voluntarily went to get professional help, and I was informed by their staff that I had been given GHB. After an overnight stay, I am home and doing well. I would like to extend a big thanks of gratitude to the professionals at Cedars-Sinai for their great care and professionalism. This is a lesson to all young women out there, be aware of your surroundings." According to reports, Mischa had been at her home with another guest when the police were called to the scene, and West Hollywood Sheriff's Department's Sergeant Duncan confirmed that the actress was "fully clothed" and "speaking in coherent sentences" upon their arrival.
Mischa revealed she had been drugged
The London-born actress, who moved to the US as a young girl, had previously been committed to a psychiatric ward in 2009 after suffering a mental breakdown. She has since spoken about the experience, telling People: "It was a full-on breakdown. It was terrifying. Straight out of Girl, Interrupted. Story of my life." Mischa also has a turbulent relationship with her mother Nuala, and sued her in 2015 after alleging that Nuala had stolen money that rightfully belonged to her. The lawsuit stated: "While Barton was busy perfecting her craft and turning her acting dreams into reality, her mother, defendant Nuala Barton, was secretly scheming to exploit Barton's burgeoning career for her benefit."
