Those two! Emma Stone gave an emotional acceptance speech when she was awarded the Outstanding Performance for a Female Actor gong at the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, 29 January - but it was her La La Land costar Ryan Gosling’s reaction to her on-stage performance that really set Twitter on fire. As his red-haired leading lady took to the microphone to give thanks and express gratitude, Ryan sat eagerly anticipating his good pal’s (presumably well-rehearsed) speech - but when she went a little off-piste his reactions were hilarious.
Emma momentarily lost her train of thought as she raced against the countdown clock telling her to bring her speech to an end. “I forgot everything that I have ever thought in my life!” the actress rambled. And as viewers at home wondered what she was going to say next, the camera panned to Gosling -whose confused expression was priceless.
Ryan Gosling looked a little confused - and we all agreed!
Ever professional, Stone got soon back in the groove, moving on to thank director Damien Chazelle and her handsome partner in crime. “Ryan, you’re the best. That’s just the truth. No one can argue it,” she gushed. And while we all agree, her hunky 36-year old costar got all bashful.
Emma Stone's speech was very emotional
Stone fought off competition from four other impressive leading ladies as she scooped the top honour at Sunday night’s awards. Also in her category were Amy Adams, nominated for 'Arrival,' Emily Blunt for 'The Girl on the Train,' Natalie Portman for 'Jackie,' and Meryl Streep for 'Florence Foster Jenkins'.
She praised her fellow nominees as she gave her acceptance speech on the Shrine Auditorium’s stage. "You are the greatest,” she told her actress friends. “And your talent and intelligence are mind-blowing."
