The star tweeted a snap of herself in her new role, writing: "Ready to meet Ethel Muggs? Check out Riverdale tomorrow night!!!" and fans were quick to discuss the exciting news. One wrote: "May or may not be watching Riverdale just for @shannonpurser #Barb," while another added: "BARB LIVES ON IN RIVERDALE (as Ethel)." Despite having very little screentime, Shannon's role as Nancy's unfortunate friend Barb who wound up trapped in a parallel world was embraced on social media, with many fans outraged when her death received little attention from the other characters on the show. The trailer for the second series of the show was released in February, and shows snippets of what to expect in the upcoming show, which will be released over Halloween this year.
