Kelly Clarkson has opened up about the moment she was falsely told she had cancer. Just moments before she scooped two gongs at the Grammys in 2006, the singer revealed her momentous win was tainted because of a mix-up of medical records. Speaking on Billboard's Pop Shop Podcast, the 34-year-old confessed: "Not many people know this but I was told that morning that I had cancerous results for something. I go the whole day, I cried doing my makeup, four times, and I was completely freaking out."

"Then when I won, I thought that was God giving me one cool thing before something horrible happens," she added. "Then I went to the doctor the next day, and this is the worst part - they apologised for mixing up results! And I was like, 'Are you for real? You completely ruined my entire [night]'… first time for an artist, as a kid watching the Grammys, it was a big dream!"

The American Idol winner, who received prizes for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Since U Been Gone and Best Pop Vocal Album for Breakaway, described the moment as the "worst greatest day". She confessed: "It was the worst greatest day. And then the next day, I wanted to punch someone! I was like, 'Who mixes up results? Why wouldn’t we test again?!' It was a very much a rollercoaster ride for me. But hey, I didn't have cancer! I don't really tell that story but it's a real story."

Grammy Awards 2017: see all the nominations

Speaking about her latest nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance, Kelly revealed she won't be attending the star-studded ceremony on Sunday. "I'm knee-deep in my record and I'm going to be on a different coast," she explained. "I didn't know I was going to be nominated! I didn't know there was a chance so we scheduled other things prior to finding out. I'm against Adele and Beyoncé so I don't foresee me winning! And I don't even think that category is going to be televised."
