Eastenders fans were left reeling over New Year when both Roxy and Ronnie Mitchell died after a late night swim went horribly wrong. The popular soap has now revealed the truth behind their deaths, leading Ronnie's widower Jack to take his rage out on their mother, Glenda.

The grieving character attended an inquest into the deaths of the sisters, and discovered that Roxy suffered a heart attack shortly after jumping into the pool, and that there had been cocaine in her system. Meanwhile, Ronnie jumped into the pool to save her, and accidentally drowned due to the weight of her wedding dress.

Furious at the news, Jack told their mother Glenda: "I've made the mistake of letting Roxy into our lives, I've given her the benefit… Do you think I'm going to make the same mistake twice? You're a liar. You're a snake, wheeling your way in here just like Roxy did - pulling at Ron's heartstrings and I let her. I didn't put my foot down." He then told Glenda to leave, saying: "I don't want you anywhere near my kids, do you hear me?"

Roxy actress Rita Mitchell has previously opened up about leaving the show, telling The Sun: "When Sean [O'Connor] brought the idea to me, it was like I knew I was being given a kick. I knew I needed to do it, and I'm a big believer in the universe guiding you to where you need to go.

"Obviously I knew that I couldn't stay there forever, and I didn't want to stay there forever. The problem is, because I love everyone so much there and it's such a family environment, you get very used to being there. I know in my heart of hearts it's the right thing to do. I needed to get out. I needed to spread my wings."
