This year she'll be cosying up to her boyfriend Prince Harry, but in the past Meghan Markle has rocked the single life. The Suits actress wrote a blog post on her website The Tig about the importance of self-love, sharing the same message in 2015 and 2016. She gave advice about how singletons should mark the Hallmark holiday, writing: "I think you need to be your own Valentine."

Meghan, 35, added: "I think you need to cook that beautiful dinner even when it's just you, wear your favourite outfit, buy yourself some flowers, and celebrate the self love that often gets muddled when we focus on what we don't have." She recalled a time when she was chatting to her Suits co-stars Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres, complaining and showing absolutely no self-love. "One of them stopped me – truth be told I can't remember which one because they both impart their sage wisdom with me on the daily – but one of the stylish wise ones stopped me and said, 'Hey! That's my friend you're talking about. Be nice to her,'" wrote Meghan. "They were protecting me from myself. From my own criticism, and my own self doubt. They were reminding me to treat myself as well as I treat those closest to me. To be my own valentine."

Harry and Meghan: a timeline of their romance
Meghan, who was married to TV producer Trevor Engelson for two years, concluded the post by writing: "I'm not going to wait for someone to buy me the things I covet (nor do I want to)." She added: "I want to treat myself as well as I treat those dearest to me. Because I am my own funny Valentine. So whether you have a special someone, you'll be with friends, or you'll be flying solo this Saturday (or any other day for that matter), be good to yourself. Love yourself, treat yourself, honour yourself and celebrate you. Be your own beautiful, darling, cherished and funny Valentine. You deserve it."
Prince Harry and the American actress have been dating since last summer. Their relationship has gone from strength to strength, with royal watchers waiting for news of an engagement. The couple have made every effort to make their transatlantic relationship work, with Harry flying to Toronto, where Suits is filmed, to see Meghan, and the pretty brunette staying for brief periods of time at Kensington Palace.

Royal romances that never fail to enthral, starting with Harry and Meghan
Earlier this year, the couple embarked on a secret trip to Norway. Meghan and Harry holidayed in the town of Tromso, where they reportedly stayed in a cabin during their visit, took part in whale-watching, and watched the spectacular Northern Lights. No doubt the romantic royal has another special date lined up for Valentine's Day.
