Britney Spears' niece Maddie is recovering from her accident one step at a time. The little girl isn't ready to go back to school, but she was able to make a special visit on Valentine's Day to see her classmates. Her mum Jamie Lynn shared a photo of her daughter putting on a brave face for the camera. Smiling from ear-to-ear, Maddie looked to be on the mend. Jamie Lynn, 25, explained on Instagram: "Maddie isn't quite ready to return to school, but her doctors did clear her to bring in her Valentine's Day treats to her class today. Thanks to @avery and @hersheycompany for making these treats for her to pass out, since I didn't have the time to make any myself this year."

She added: "It made her so happy to see her friends, and be able to give them such cute treats. It was a great moment for us after everything that has happened. We are so thankful to celebrate Valentine's Day with the ones we love, and we don't take a second of it for granted. Happy Valentine's Day."

Her post comes a few days after Maddie was released from hospital, following her terrifying accident. Maddie crashed her ATV into a pond while driving on the grounds of her home in Kentwood, Louisiana in early February. A police report stated: "The ATV and child were instantly submerged in the water right before their eyes. Within seconds, the child's mother, stepfather and other family members reached the pond, dove in and attempted to rescue the child to no avail. The child was trapped and secured by the seatbelt and the ATV's safety netting. Within two minutes Acadian Ambulance Service arrived and assisted in freeing the child from the cold waters."

Five days later, Jamie Lynn, who welcomed Maddie with ex-boyfriend Casey Aldridge when she was 17, gave an update. She and her husband Jamie Watson took to their respective Instagram accounts to express their gratitude for the medical staff. "Thanks to the amazing first responders, and medical teams at University and Children's Hospital in New Orleans, LA, we are headed home with our baby girl as she continues to recover," they wrote.
Jamie Lynn's older sister Britney also posted on Instagram: "So grateful that Maddie was able to go home today… It's truly a miracle. Our prayers were heard, and they were answered. Thank you so much for all of your love and support this week. My family appreciates it more than you will ever know."
