In the clip, the Beast (Dan Stevens) bangs on Belle's bedroom door, saying: "You'll join me for dinner! That's not a request," before Mrs Potts (Emma Thompson) calms him down, saying: "Gently master. The girl lost her father and her freedom all in one day." Ewan McGregor, who voices Lumiere, also showed off his French accent, saying: "Yes, the girl is probably scared to death." The scene then cuts to Belle lowering a homemade rope from the window in order to escape the castle. The funny clip, which is less than a minute long, shows the key difference between the original animation and the upcoming live-action adaptation as instead of Belle crying in her room, she is instead plotting an escape.

Emma has previously opened up about updating Belle's character to make her more accessible to a modern audience. "In the animated movie, it’s her father who is the inventor, and we actually co-opted that for Belle," the star explained to Entertainment Weekly. "I was like, 'Well, there was never very much information or detail at the beginning of the story as to why Belle didn’t fit in, other than she liked books. Also what is she doing with her time?' So, we created a backstory for her, which was that she had invented a kind of washing machine, so that, instead of doing laundry, she could sit and use that time to read instead. So, yeah, we made Belle an inventor."
