Katy Perry has broken her silence for the first time since announcing her split from Hollywood star Orlando Bloom. Taking to her Twitter page on Thursday, the 32-year-old revealed that nobody was to "blame". She told her 96 million followers: "HOW BOUT A NEW WAY OF THINKING FOR 2017!? You can still be friends & love your former partners! No one's a victim or a villain, get a life y'all!" [sic] News of their split was confirmed by their representatives on Tuesday. In a bid to prevent exaggerated rumours from flying around the internet, the statement read: "Before rumours or falsifications get out of hand we can confirm that Orlando and Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time."

Katy and her 40-year-old former beau were last photographed together at Sunday night's Vanity Fair Oscar party. The end of their romance will come as a surprise to many as they celebrated several milestone moments together over the past few months - including Orlando's 40th birthday in January. The American singer had organised a surprise bash with close family and friends in Palm Springs, and she even managed to get Orlando's mother Sonia to fly over for the festivities. The British actor later took to his social media sites to share a picture of himself with his mother. In the caption, he gushed: "best gift ever surprise visit from me mum."

The A-list couple started dating last January, but it wasn't until May that they made their relationship official on social media. The Roar hitmaker confirmed that she and Orlando were officially an item by sharing a photo of themselves lying on the stairs of a lavish hotel during Cannes Film Festival, adding the caption: "we cannes't." Earlier this year, the English actor praised Katy's work with UNICEF, which promotes the rights and wellbeing of all children. Orlando said: "She's amazing, you know, I'm super proud of the work that she does." The Lord of the Rings star was previously married to Australian model Miranda Kerr from 2007 to 2013. The former couple are parents to five-year-old-son Flynn. Meanwhile, Katy tied the knot with British comedian Russell Brand in 2010 but their high-profile romance ended two years later.
