Celine Dion admits it was a hard decision to sing new song for 'Beauty and the Beast'

March 6, 2017

Because of the successCeline Dion experienced with her 1991 hit Beauty and the Beast, it may be hard for fans to believe that she almost turned down an offer to sing a song for the new live-action film of the same name. But according to the 48-year-old, that's exactly what happened. Speaking to ET, the songstress revealed she had to think long and hard about her participation in the highly-anticipated movie because it reminded her of her late-husband, René Angélil. "My first Beauty and the Beast, the decision was made with my husband. Now I'm making decisions on my own. It's a little bit harder," she explained. "I couldn't say yes right away, because I felt like I was kind of cheating in a way." She eventually felt compelled to take the role because of the impact the Disney series has had on her career. "I was at the beginning of my career, it put me on the map," Céline noted of the original animated film. "It put me where I am today."

The mum-of-three revealed news about the song in January, stating: "Being a part of the original film was such a magical experience in my life, and I'm truly honoured to be a part of this film again." The It's All Coming Back to Me Now singer joins John Legend, Ariana Grande and Josh Groban as artists on the new soundtrack. John and Arian just released the music video for their duet performing the tune Celine put on the map: Beauty and the Beast.

Producer Ron Fair spoke about having the duo perform an updated version of the song earlier this year, telling Deadline: "Stepping into the shoes of an Oscar- and Grammy Award-winning classic is not small potatoes. But with today's two greatest singers – John Legend and Ariana Grande – we are bringing the song back with a new school/old school fresh treatment that shows the soulfulness and power of what a great melody and lyric can inspire."
