Bill Paxton's cause of death revealed

Bill Paxton's death certificate has been released. The actor passed away suddenly on 25th February at the age of 61, and it now has been confirmed that the cause of death was a stroke following heart surgery. Bill underwent surgery on 14 February to replace a heart valve and correct an aortic aneurysm, but complications arose and he died 11 days later at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in LA.

Following his death, Bill was remembered by some of his former famous colleagues, including his Mighty Joe Young co-star Charlize Theron. "You were a great friend to me, Bill. AND one of the finest actors to share a set with," she tweeted. "Sending so much love to Bill Paxton's family." Tom Hanks, who worked alongside Bill in the 1995 film Apollo 13, wrote: "Bill Paxton was, simply, a wonderful man. A wonderful man."

Arnold Schwarzenegger also paid tribute. "Bill Paxton could play any role, but he was best at being Bill – a great human being with a huge heart. My thoughts are with his family," he wrote. Bette Midler added: "So profoundly sorry to hear that Bill Paxton has died. My family & I were such fans; we send our condolences and deepest sympathy to his."

The 61-year-old star with his wife of 30 years, Louise Newbury

The actor – best known for his roles in movies including Aliens, True Lies and Titanic – is survived by his wife of 30 years, Louise Newbury, and his two children, daughter Lydia Paxton and son James Paxton. Announcing the news of his death, the family said in a statement, "It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery. A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill's passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family's wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father."
