Ivanka Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau enjoyed a night out together on Broadway on Wednesday. The pair arrived in the same motorcade at New York's Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre to watch new musical Come From Away, which tells the story of how a small town in Newfoundland helped stranded airline passengers after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Ivanka, 35, sat in Row F between Nikki R Haley – father President Donald Trump's ambassador to the UN - and Justin, according to the New York Times.

The showing was also attended by 125 UN ambassadors, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland and former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. Justin was joined by his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, and he gave a surprise address ahead of the start of the show, for which he received a standing ovation. "The world gets to see what it is to lean on each other and be there for each other through the darkest times," he said as he introduced the play. He also hailed the friendship between the two countries. "There is no relationship quite like the friendship between Canada and the United States," he added. "… Our friends are there for those tough times."

Ivanka's appearance at the play coincided with the decision by a Hawaii judge to block President Trump's new travel ban, hours before it was due to begin. The order would have placed a 90-day ban on people from six mainly Muslim nations and a 120-day ban on refugees. US District Judge Derrick Watson cited "questionable evidence" in the government's argument that the ban was a matter of national security. President Trump, meanwhile, has responded by describing the ruling as "unprecedented judicial overreach".
