A breakup may seem like the end of a love story, but that's not always the case. Quite a few celebrity couples have called quits on their relationships before ultimately finding their way back together (think Miley and Liam and even Prince William and Kate!).
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner may not have reunited (yet!) but here are 13 other celebrity and royal couples who can show them the way. We just love a happy ending!
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner
These A-listers are the most recent couple to spark reconciliation rumours. It's reported that the Hollywood actors, who are amicably co-parenting their three children, have called off their divorce.
They certainly have a long history together: the stars began dating in 2004 after becoming friends on the sets of Pearl Harbor and Daredevil, married in 2005 and split in 2015.
Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus
The Hannah Montana alum and pop princess found her prince on the set of The Last Song in which they both co-starred; she was 17, he was 20.
They split three years later after both hitting superstardom – Miley as a chart-topping singer, Liam in The Hunger Games. But nothing could keep these two lovebirds apart. They began quietly dating again last spring and by October 2016, the Wrecking Ball singer was sporting a Neil Lane engagement ring that she showed off on the Ellen show.
Wedding rumours reached fever pitch recently when Miley's famous dad Billy Ray Cyrus posted an Instagram photo of his daughter looking radiant in a white dress, accompanied by a caption saying how happy he was for her. He later cleared up the confusion by posting a new message. in which he urged fans not to 'jump the gun'.
Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo
The 2012 GQ Gentlemen's Ball in NYC was where this couple decided to make their red-carpet debut. Looking picture-perfect in matching black outfits, they instantly became a duo to watch. In May of the following year supporters of the Maroon Five frontman and Victoria's Secret model were devastated to learn that they'd parted ways after several trying months.
But the split didn't last long! By July, not only were they back together, but they were engaged! "The couple recently reunited and Adam proposed this weekend in Los Angeles," his rep said at the time. Adam later revealed to Kelly and Michael that proposing made him far more nervous than he was expecting: "I'm a confident person, but I got on that knee and everything changed immediately. I lost my equilibrium. I had to get on the other one."
Despite the butterflies, he popped the question and the pair tied the knot in 2014. They welcomed daughter Dusty Rose on Sept. 22 2016.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas
Many relationships begin with a first date at the movies, but normally both people are present. Sparks began to fly in this long-lasting romance when Michael attended a private screening of The Mask of Zorro. "He says he fell in love with me the first time he saw me on screen," Catherine said. That fall the pair met in person at the Deauville Film Festival. They went public with their relationship in 1999. "I am a very lucky man," Michael said at the time.
On August 8, 2000 the pair welcomed their first son, Dylan, before tying the knot on New Year's Eve. Three years later their daughter Carys came along and they soon settled in Bermuda.
It seemed to be smooth sailing for the family until 2010, when Michael was diagnosed with throat cancer and Catherine began to suffer from Bipolar Disorder. The strain of their individual struggles caused the couple to temporarily part ways in 2013 before finding their way back together in 2014. The following year they celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary and Catherine confirmed that things were definitely back on track with a happy photo and a personal message: "Loving our life together, here's to the next 15!"
Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge
Possibly the most famous couple in the world, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge initially met while studying at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Their relationship came to light more than a year after their romance is believed to have begun when the pair were spotted during a skiing holiday in Klosters.
Three years later, in April of 2007, they split. The strain of spending lots of time apart as a result of William's royal duties and his new position with the Household Cavalry in Dorset, England, left the duo unsure about what their future held, but they quickly figured it out and reunited within months. Kate was notably spotted as a guest at the charity concert Prince William held with his brother Harry to mark the 10th anniversary of their mother's death on Princess Diana's birthday, July 1.
On Nov. 16 2010 the couple announced their engagement before tying the knot on Apr. 29, 2011. They've now been happily married for five years and have also welcomed two children: Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton
They were one of the most famous couples in Hollywood and their relationship was a serious rollercoaster ride packed with emotions. Elizabeth and Richard met on the set of Cleopatra in 1963 and sparks flew immediately – the only problem was they were both already married. "Richard and I had an incredible chemistry together. We couldn't get enough of each other," Elizabeth once said.
They wed in 1964, but split after a decade of marriage when Richard had an affair with a younger star. However, that wasn't the end of their love story. The pair reunited in 1975 and remarried in 1976. Though they divorced a second time soon after, Richard and Elizabeth remained close friends. She was on his arm for his 50th birthday in 1982 and devastated by his early death in 1984. In fact, the famous Hollywood starlet reckoned they could well have tied the knot a third time had Richard lived longer.
When asked why their relationship had so many ups and downs she said: "Maybe we loved each other too much."
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green
Megan Fox says she was "instantly in love" with Brian Austin Green when the pair met in 2004 while Brian was guest starring on Megan's TV show, Hope & Faith. "I remember literal electricity shooting through me and out me from every direction. It was like magic," Megan told The New York Times magazine.
After dating for two years the pair announced their engagement in 2006, but called it off in 2009. "Marriage isn't a realistic goal for someone who is 23, that's all," Megan told US Weekly.
By 2010, at 24, Megan had changed her mind and the pair's engagement was back on. They tied the knot two weeks later in a private Hawaiian ceremony. In 2012 they welcomed son Noah, followed by son Bodhi in 2014, but they weren't playing happy family. Megan filed for divorced in 2015 citing "irreconcilable differences."
But the couple managed to work it out. In April 2016 Megan announced that she was pregnant with their third child and the happy parents-to-be appear to have laid their divorce plans to rest.
Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott
They met on the set of Mind Over Murder in 2005 and the rest was history! Although Tori and Dean were both married to other people at the time, their attraction was undeniable and they married one month after Tori's divorce from actor and playwright Charlie Shanian was finalized.
Although the couple, who share five children together, took a temporary break after reports of Dean's infidelity, Tori has since confirmed that everything is back on track, with the couple renewing their vows for their 10th anniversary on May 7, 2016.
Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson
Sometimes the movie magic takes place behind the camera – which was exactly what happened with Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen! The adorable couple met on the set of Jumper, where they took their romance off-screen and started dating in 2007 before announcing their engagement in 2008.
After two years passed and they still hadn't tied the knot, speculation was rampant that things weren't all well in paradise.
In August 2010, Rachel's rep confirmed that the duo had split: "Yes, the engagement is off." But not for long! Three months later the couple reunited and on October 29, 2014 they welcomed daughter Briar Rose, named for the fairytale Sleeping Beauty. Much like the Disney princess, the pair seem to have found their happily ever after.
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
Justin and Jessica met through mutual friends and were publicly spotted together for the first time at a Golden Globes after-party in 2007. Justin hadn't been single for long, having recently ended things with Cameron Diaz (you may have forgotten that they dated for three years!).
But the rules of attraction could not be denied and Justin and Jessica's relationship began. Soon they were a fan favourite until they shocked the world in March 2011 by making the joint decision to call it quits. Thankfully, the couple reconciled later that year and announced their engagement in January 2012. They married on October 19, 2012 at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Fasano, Italy and welcomed their son Silas in April 2015.
Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink
It all started with a haircut for this couple, who met when Patrick visited Jillian's salon in the '90s. They tied the knot on July 31, 1999 at Patrick's family's farmhouse in Maine. Soon they were a family of five after welcoming daughter Talula in 2002 and twin sons Sullivan Patrick and Darby in 2007.
Everything seemed to be going swimmingly until the Grey's Anatomy star and the professional hair stylist shocked fans by announcing plans to separate in January 2015. But Patrick wasn't ready to give up and the actor decided to re-evaluate his priorities. “Time goes by so quickly with my kids that I don’t want to miss that," he told the Evening Standard. And it seems that family-focused Patrick was exactly what Jillian had been searching for. The pair reunited in May 2016.
Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade
It wasn't exactly love at first sight for the actress and NBA superstar, who have since proven their unshakable bond. Both hired to host a Super Bowl party in 2007, they were each in other relationships and appeared to have little in common. "I stayed on one side of the room with my people," Gabrielle told Essence magazine. "We like to party and he doesn't drink at all. He was on the other side of the room holding bible study."
As Dwyane began divorce proceedings with his high school sweetheart Siohvaughn Funches, rumours begin to swirl that he was secretly dating the Bring It On star. When the basketball pro reached out to apologize for all of the negative press they became friends, which quickly evolved into a romance.
In early 2013 they called it quits, but by April, Gabrielle was back on Dwyane's arm for the Miami Heat Family Festival. Dwyane later confirmed the split and the reconciliation. "We took a step back for a little while. At the end of day, we came back together and said, 'Listen, we want to continue this.'" Proving just how true that was they announced their engagement in December 2013 and tied the knot eight months later on Aug. 30.
Pink and Carey Hart
Known for her honest and realistic tracks, it's no surprise that singer Pink is candid about her marriage too. "We take breaks. We've had two breaks," the star has shared. "The first one was about a year. And the second one was 11 months." But those breaks haven't ever kept them apart permanently.
The motorcycle racer and the singer met in 2001 at the X Games sporting event in Philadelphia. It was Pink who proposed to Carey in 2005, prompting their wedding in Costa Rica on January 7, 2006. They announced a separation in 2008 but ultimately reconsidered. The duo was delighted to welcome daughter Willow on June 2, 2011 and have given up breaks for good.
On Dec. 26 2016, the happy couple became parents for the second time to son Jameson.

Nick and Vanessa Lachey
Nick and Vanessa have the Miss Teen USA pageant to thank for their happiness – the pair met when they were both on the judging panel for the 2003 competition. Though neither was looking for a partner at the time, they kept in touch and in 2006 Nick invited Vanessa to appear in his "What's Left of Me" music video. Though they were just friends at the time, the two were seen flirting and their chemistry was obvious.
After Nick officially divorced first wife, singer and actress Jessica Simpson, the pair became an official couple and dated happily for three years, before calling it quits in June 2009. By October they were back together and in November 2010 they announced plans to marry. Following their July 2011 nuptials, the couple welcomed three kids: sons Camden and Phoenix and daughter Brooklyn.
