Sofia Vergara sends her love to on-screen son Rico Rodriguez after the sudden death of his father

Sofia Vergara offered her condolences to her Modern Family co-star Rico Rodriquez after the sudden death of his father Roy Rodriguez on March 12. Sofia, who plays Rico’s character Manny Delgado’s mother on the ABC series tweeted: "I love You", in response to the 18-year-old’s sad announcement via Instagram on Sunday. "This has been the toughest week of my life," Rico wrote next to a picture of him and his father sipping milkshakes. "My dad was the most kind-hearted, loving, hard-working, determined, and funny man I’ve ever known."

Rico's father Roy passed away suddenly at the age of 52

He continued: "He was like a super hero, he had the ability to get the best out of you day in and day out. I'm gonna miss your hugs. I'm gonna miss your advice. I’m gonna miss your laugh. I know you're looking down on us right now giving us the green light to move forward. I miss you daddy, I’ll love you forever—Your youngest." Roy, 52, who was married to the star’s mother Diane for 33 years, was also father to Rico’s sister and Austin and Ally star Raini Rodriguez, 23, and his brothers Roy Jr. and Ray.

On Sunday, Raini took to her Instagram as well to remember her father. "You have officially been gone one week daddy and while it has been really difficult, we are all still standing tall and I know it's because you are sending us strength and guidance all the way from heaven," she said in part before ending the post with: "Your one and only baby girl."

Roy, who operated both Rodriguez Tire Service and Rodriguez Tire Center, in Bryan, Texas was about family. According to his obituary Roy was all about those closest to him. "A true family man,” it reads. "Roy also made it a priority to thank God for the good things he had in life, ensuring that his children appreciated Him, as well. In essence, Roy laughed and loved his way through life, making the most of each moment he was given."
