Ken Barlow’s unconscious body was left lying at the bottom of the stairs at the end of Monday night's episode of Coronation Street, but things are set to get a whole lot darker for the Barlow clan in the aftermath of his 'fall'. On Wednesday, the police discover crucial evidence to suggest that Ken was in fact hit on the head and pushed deliberately, and an attempted murder investigation is launched. With the Barlow patriarch having managed to successfully fall out with every member of his family in recent weeks, with Tracy, Peter, Adam and Daniel, not to mention Phelan and Sinead, all holding a vendetta against him, the list of suspects is sky-high.

Ken's anxious family wait at the hospital, but is there a guilty culprit among the mix?

William Roache, who has being playing Ken since Coronation Street’s first episode back in 1960, has revealed that he didn’t even know himself who the culprit was in the early stages of filming, saying: “It was great to play it like that and all of the suspects were told to behave as though they were guilty or hiding something and they didn’t know.” Discussing Ken’s reaction after being told his attacker is very close to home, he said: “He is so scared, it has been put into his mind that it must be somebody close.” Adding: “If a suspicion is put into your mind and you are a bit frail and sick the paranoia would be huge, he is going through each of them in his mind and with each one there is a possible motive, an argument he has had which could have triggered it.”

The list of suspects is long - with many of the street's residents wanting revenge on Ken

Despite remaining tight-lipped about who the culprit is, the actor teased: “I hope the viewers enjoy trying to work out who it could be in the same way that we all did. It is very cleverly done and I am thrilled to bits with it.”
