Coronation Street shocked fans on Monday night when Ken Barlow’s unconscious body was left lying at the bottom of the stairs at the end of the episode. On Wednesday, it was revealed that Ken didn’t just fall, but was in fact hit on the head and deliberately pushed, with DS MacKinnon launching an attempted murder investigation. The latest Corrie whodunit sees Phelan, Sinead Tinker, Peter Barlow, Daniel Osbourne, Adam Barlow and Tracy Barlow all in the frame. However, fans have taken to Twitter to share their own theories about the attack, and it looks like could be some red herrings thrown in the mix.

Who pushed Ken?

One popular suspect seems to be Ken’s granddaughter, Amy Barlow, with one fan writing: “Was 100% Amy who pushed down the stairs,” while another guessed: “It was Amy and the Violin at the top of the stairs.” A third suggested: “It’s got to be Amy her eyes are very shifty and she can’t keep her cool, she’s a mean one look out folks!” Another joked: "It was definitely Eccles," referring to Barlow family dog. Others were anxious to know who did it, “Hope it’s not long before we find out who was behind who attacked Ken,” one tweeted.

The main suspects have been pictured, but fans have been guessing other culprits

William Roache, who has being playing Ken since Coronation Street’s first episode back in 1960, has revealed that he didn’t even know himself who the culprit was in the early stages of filming, saying: “It was great to play it like that and all of the suspects were told to behave as though they were guilty or hiding something and they didn’t know.”

Discussing Ken’s reaction after being told his attacker is very close to home, he said: “He is so scared, it has been put into his mind that it must be somebody close.” Adding: “If a suspicion is put into your mind and you are a bit frail and sick the paranoia would be huge, he is going through each of them in his mind and with each one there is a possible motive, an argument he has had which could have triggered it.”

Despite remaining tight-lipped about who the culprit is, the actor teased: “I hope the viewers enjoy trying to work out who it could be in the same way that we all did. It is very cleverly done and I am thrilled to bits with it.”
