After wanting to for years, Eva Longoria finally had the opportunity to explore her roots! The 42-year-old actress celebrated her Spanish heritage by visiting Longoria, in Asturias, Spain. The small village (which her last name no doubt comes from) is where her ancestors originated.
Eva went back to her roots
The Desperate Housewives star shared photos from her special trip to Instagram on Friday, writing: "Yep. This happened today! Got to finally discover my roots!" Longoria posted a photo of herself by the town’s sign. "I have been wanting to visit the small village where my ancestors came from and where my last name was born for years!!" she continued: "And today I got to meet all the amazing people in this small town who were beaming with pride!"
Eva posted snaps of her visit to Oviedo
Eva expressed her gratitude for the life-changing trip, writing: "Thank you to everyone who helped welcome me today, I felt the love and energy of each of you! Gracias por recibirme! #Asturias #Llongoria #Longoria #Orgullosa." The actress gave fans a glimpse at her visit, posting several videos and photos of the country's famous landmarks to her Instagram and Snapchat. Some highlights came from the content Eva shared while in Asturia’s capital city Oviedo. The star visited some of Oviedo's most picturesque spots, including the Oviedo Cathedral.
Eva enjoyed exploring the Covadonga Cathedral
An additional stop on Eva's trip was Covadonga, another village in Asturias. Her followers were along for the ride on Saturday morning as she explored the stunning Santa Cueva de Covadonga cathedral. In a post on her Instagram, Eva wrote: "What a sight to see today!" The star also posed in front of the “King Pelayo, who was one of the kings of Asturias,” she said in a video, showing a statue of the king outside the cathedral.
Eva says she can't stop eating the food
In addition to diving into the rich history of her family, Eva couldn’t help but confess on Snapchat that she has been indulging in all the delicious food the culture has to offer. “It’s so beautiful in the north of Spain, and I’m getting fatter by the minute,” she quipped while using Snapchat’s famous bee-face filter in the video. “Cookies and wine!”
