April 13, 2017

Gal Gadot received a little help from Beyoncé in landing the coveted role of Wonder Woman. The 32-year-old actress has revealed that she listened to none other than Queen Bey to help calm her nerves and give her more confidence while auditioning for the part.

Speaking to W Magazine, the former Miss Israel explained that doing a camera test for the film’s director Zack Snyder was "torture." "They were looking at six or seven girls, and we were all in separate trailers and were told to stay inside until they called us. Waiting is my enemy Number One, and I was losing my mind," she recalled, before explaining how the GRAMMY winner came to her rescue. "I decided to put on Beyoncé. Who runs the world? Girls! I just started to dance, and I let my anxiety go. Thank you, Beyoncé!"

While Gal was excited to play the well-known female superhero, her casting ignited a wave of backlash online because, as the actress explains, she was viewed as too small-chested for the role. "Yeah-that was a big problem. The web really paid attention to the most important side of Wonder Woman," she quipped.

The road to superhero status wasn’t clear cut for the star, who admits that becoming an actor wasn’t her dream. While attending law school in Israel, Gal even turned down the opportunity to audition for the role of a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace (The role later went to Olga Kurylenko.) "I said, 'No way. I'm studying law and international relations. I'm way too serious and smart to be an actress, and besides, the script is all in English.' I spoke English, but I wasn't comfortable with it," she said. Gal first donned the Wonder Woman costume in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and this summer will headline her own movie before reuniting with Batman and Co. in Justice League.
