Kate Beckinsale has responded to the divorce petition by her estranged husband Len Wiseman, according to American news website TMZ. The site reports to have seen documents which show that actress Kate wants her personal effects, jewellery and earnings since the couple's separation to remain hers. The site also says that Kate is reserving the right to spousal support from her film producer ex. Kate and Len married in 2004 and were married for 13 years before Len filed for divorce last year citing irreconcilable differences.

Kate hinted at the difficult time she has perhaps been through recently on her Instagram page this weekend. The star wished her stepfather Roy a happy birthday and posted a throwback photo of her daughter Lily applying make up to her grandfather’s face. In her message, she wrote: “Happy birthday Roy, the best, wisest, funniest, smartest rock of a stepdad I could have possibly wished for ...thank you for treasuring the warrior in your bold girls while also supporting and always being present to piece together the bits that can break. We love you so much. As a friend, maybe blend the foundation a tiny bit more xxx happy birthday.”

Lily, now 18, is Kate’s daughter from her previous eight-year relationship with Michael Sheen, which ended in 2003 when Lily was four. Kate has previously said of their relationship to The Telegraph: "We're very lucky. I spent nearly ten years of my life with Michael. I don't think I've got horrible taste and I really value the friendship that I have with him, and the fact that he is Lily's dad." Writing on her Instagram page in February this year, Kate wished her daughter a happy 18th birthday and said: "18 and now you're in the big girl shoes for real. I love you so much @lily_beckinsale. Nothing has been better in my life than being your mama. Happy happy happy birthday to my favourite, funniest best person in the world.”
