Sir Elton John is recovering at home after spending two days in intensive care while suffering from a bacterial infection. The 70-year-old was forced to cancel several concerts in Las Vegas and California in order to recover. The music icon became ill with the "potentially deadly" infection in South America, and returned to the UK for treatment. His management released a statement which read: "Thankfully, Elton's medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully. He is expected to make a full and complete recovery."

Sir Elton also released a statement about his health. He said: "I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologise for disappointing them. I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well." Fans were quick to send the singer well-wishes, with one writing: "I have loved this man's music my entire life. Get well, Sir Elton. We need you," while another added: "GET WELL, ELTON JOHN! We need you!"

Sir Elton is now recovering at home

The Tiny Dancer singer recently celebrated his 70th birthday with a lavish, star-studded party, and opened up about turning the landmark age with Beat 1's Zane Lowe. "Some people don't like birthdays, they don't like celebrating, they don't want to know about them, and I've always enjoyed my birthday," he said. "Seventy sounds so archaic, doesn't it? When I was growing up, 70 sounded like the end of the world. But things have changed — you're only as old as you feel inside."

Elton is a dad of two

The father-of-two has previously had to cancel a concert after suffering an appendicitis back in July 2013. Speaking about the ordeal, he told The Telegraph: "I knew I was sick but I didn't know I had such a dangerous thing inside of me until I had a scan, which was after nine shows, 24 flights and a summer ball. I could have easily died."
