Legendary Bollywood star Vinod Khanna has died from cancer aged 70, his hospital has confirmed. The Indian actor and politician, who appeared in more than 100 Bollywood films, was admitted to hospital earlier this month as his illness became more serious. Indian president Pranab Mukherjee led tributes, while several Bollywood stars paid homage. The president of India tweeted: "Heartfelt condolences on the passing away of Shri Vinod Khanna, a highly talented and acclaimed actor & MP."

Filmmaker Karan Johar shared: "His screen presence is unparalleled even today... his super star swag is what we grew up on. RIP #VinodKhanna.. thoughts and prayers. As a mark of respect to our beloved Vinod Khanna the entire team of Baahubali has decided to cancel the premiere tonight." Bollywood actress Kajol wrote: "RIP Vinod uncle. The original panther stride man! They truly don't make em like that anymore." [sic] Actor Arjun Rampal said: "Heartbreaking news. We lose a legend and the handsomest, most charismatic, stylish and awesome actor. #VinodKhanna a sad sad day. #RIPvinodji."

Vinod started his career in 1968 and quickly became a household name in India. Some of notable films in Indian cinema include, Chandni, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar and Qurbani. In 1997, he entered politics as a lawmaker with the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party. The acclaimed star won a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award in 1975 for his role in Haath Ki Safai. In 1999 he was given a lifetime achievement award. He last appeared on the big screen in the 2015 hit film Dilwale. The late actor married his first wife, Geetanjali, in 1971 and they had two sons, Rahul Khanna and Akshaye Khanna, who also became Bollywood actors. The marriage ended in a divorce, and he married his second wife, Kavita, in 1990. They had two children, son Sakshi and daughter Shraddha.
