Barry Manilow has chatted to Lorraine in his first UK interview since revealing that he wed his partner for nearly 40 years, Garry Kief. The star, who is currently promoting his latest album, This is My Town, admitted that he had received a "creepy" amount of attention since going public with his sexuality. He said: "It's been creepy! But who cares? It doesn't bother me. I still have my private life, I am in the public eye no matter what I say I am, but when I come home I close the door and you can't come in unless I invite you in. I don't like people knowing what the names of my dogs are, I don't like them knowing where I live and I've kept that to myself all these years and it's worked out okay and when I go out I'm okay being public."

Barry spoke about his private life
Lorraine pointed out that the response to the news that he had tied the knot was met with positivity, and Barry responded: "Well that's what's happened. I would have been surprised if it had been the other way. I know these people and they care about me and want me to be happy – I think this is great news for me." He spoke fondly about his fans, adding that they had been very dedicated ever since he started out in the music industry. "From that moment on I had to go on and promote that album but these people, these fans, from the very first moment I got on that stage, something happened… they were with me," he explained. "They didn't mind that I was terrible, they liked what they were seeing!"
