Actress Liv Tyler has joined forces with a host of famous friends to celebrate all things motherhood in her newest project with clothing brand Gap. The Lord of the Rings star, who is proud mum to Sailor, two, and nine-month-old Lula, starred in and co-directed the short film 'Mama Said', joined by friends including models Coco Rocha and Candice Swanepoel, to celebrate motherhood in all its forms.
In HELLO!'s exclusive first look behind the scenes of the video, the daughter of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler joins her model mum pals in support of charity Every Mother Counts, sharing their experiences of motherhood in the hope of supporting the charity, which is dedicated to making pregnancy and childhood safer for mothers by providing essential maternity care both across America and in countries such as India, Haiti, Syria and Tanzania.
Liv, who is mum-of-two with partner Dave Gardner, describes the video as a celebration of the joys and optimism of motherhood, a theme that she wanted to emphasise in the video, which was co-directed by Paola Kudacko and also stars actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and photographer Ali Bird and her wife Cass as the star mums dance and plays with their children.
"I often think of the things my grandmother and my mother have been telling me my whole life," says Liv. "Remembering what your ‘mama said’ as a child and growing up is very important. I often try to think of things that I can say to my children in a way that they can hear me the same way I heard my mom."
Of teaming up with clothing brand Gap for the charity video, Liv says: "I’ve always loved the Gap. Growing up in America, Gap is such a big part of your life and I thought it was such a special thing to do a project that involves the mothers, the children and Every Mother Counts."
Candice was overjoyed to introduce six-month-old son Anacã to the women in the project, sharing sweet moments with him during the shoot. "Motherhood is so different for each woman – it's your unique journey and I love that I'm able to share my experience as a mother in this project."
Coco was joined by her two-year-old daughter Ioni as the perfect playdate, adding: "I've never felt so strong and powerful as I did bringing my daughter into this world. Being a mother is by far the most rewarding and beautiful experience I've ever had."
Friday Night Lights star Jurnee added her voice to Liv's project, singing her version of the Bellamy Brothers' 'Let Your Love Flow'. "When I think of 'Mama Said', I think of things my mama used to say to me. My mom used to try to reinforce the fact that it is important to live your truth and be authentic and don’t apologize for who you are, I look forward to passing that to my son," she says of baby Hunter, five-months.
