Last month, Jacob's video invitation became an internet sensation as he and his friends a recreated the opening scene from La La Land. He said in the video: "I decided to ask Emma Stone to prom by re-creating the opening scene from La La Land. I rewrote the lyrics to the song myself and directed the video and did the choreography too, but thank you so much to all the friends and adults who came out to help make it happen." The teenager's song lyrics included: "People say I look like Ryan Gosling, and maybe that's a bit far-fetched… I know my voice ain't great. But please be my prom date!"
Why Emma Stone picked Emma as her stage name, and what she was nearly called
Shortly after the footage reached the American actress, Emma unfortunately had to turn down Jacob's offer because she was busy filming in London. She did, however, send him a letter thanking him for thinking of her and for "the greatest proposal I've ever received". Jacob read out Emma's letter during an appearance on Good Morning America. "Jacob, thanks for making the greatest proposal I've ever received.," it read. "I can't tell you what an honour that was and how much I smiled through that entire beautifully orchestrated video. I'm in London working but I hope you have the best time at prom and I'm grateful you thought of me. Thank you." She then referenced his video where he hinted that he looked a little like her co-star Ryan Gosling, adding: "Ps, I do see Gosling around the eyes. Love Emma."
