A spokesperson for Melania Trump has confirmed that the First Lady was unaware that her Twitter account had liked a tweet that criticised her marriage to Donald Trump. The original tweet read: "Seems the only #Wall @realDonaldTrump's built is the one between him and @FLOTUS," along with a gif that showed Melania's smile dropping as the President looked away from her.

Spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told the New York Post: "The First Lady wasn't aware of this until I brought it to her attention." When asked if the account had been hacked, or if someone else may have liked the tweet, she added: "Who knows… It isn't her primary account these days." The mum-of-one recently celebrated her birthday, and the President sent her a message which read: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our @FLOTUS, Melania," accompanied by a snap of the pair at his inauguration. Ivanka Trump also wished her stepmum many happy returns, writing: "Happy Birthday to our First Lady (and my incredible step-mom!) Melania Trump. A wonderful example of kindness and grace for us all! Wishing you an amazing year to come!"

Several fans were quick to joke about Donald's message to his wife, with one writing: "Odd photo choice, as the camera is focused on you, Mr. President," while another added: "Trump on a serious note you could refer to her as your beautiful wife, love of your life, etc when saying Happy Birthday.. she's not just FL." Melania celebrated the day by attending a lunch for Senate spouses at the Nation Gallery of Art. She shared a photo of herself speaking at the event, writing: "I was delighted to be the guest of honor @ Senate spouses luncheon. Thank you everyone for their kind words & support."
