Chatting on Lorraine, she said: "I did get a bit nervy before I did it. It's a bit like some people who love a drink aren't good at playing drunks - probably because they can't remember it - and I thought, 'Am I going to be able to portray my depression truly?'" She added: "It made me cry." Denise spoke candidly about her depression, saying: "It has been a long time I've had this. My eldest son is 28 and my depression started as postnatal. Many women who have postnatal will make a full recovery, unfortunately I didn't. Many people are speaking out thankfully as I felt like a lone voice."

Denise's son Matthew is the frontman for The 1975s, and she revealed that he had contributed to the film's soundtrack, joking: "What's the point in having an international rock star son if I don't use him?!" Her youngest son Louis also had a role in the film. "We needed a young teenage actor and my youngest son Louis is fabulous teenage actor and I knew I'd have him for free," she joked. She spoke about her family's support of her illness, adding: "I'm blessed that my family understood. They never saw it as an indulgence. Yesterday in the Hollywood Hills surrounded by friends I woke up with anxiety. When mine sets in I can't do anything about it. But I have got through it, with it, and I'm excited."
